Joseph Murphy NYPD Detective (Retired)
Mr. Joseph Murphy joined NY Finest Speakers in 2007 after a 21 year career with the New York City Police Department.In 1986, he began his Law Enforcement career as a Patrol Officer and a plain clothes Anti-Crime officer at the 46th Precinct in the Bronx, N.Y. Joe transferred to the Bronx Narcotics District in 1993 and was promoted to Detective in 1995.
As a Detective, Mr. Murphy conducted numerous Major Case investigations while assigned to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force, and the Organized Crime Investigation Division. He has conducted investigations throughout the United States, Europe and Africa and is one of the featured Detectives in the non-fiction book “Turning Blue: A Life Beneath The Shield.
After the attacks on September 11, 2001, Mr. Murphy transferred to the NYPD/FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force where he investigated both Domestic and International terrorism until his retirement.
With over 2 decades of experience in law enforcement, Joe made it his ultimate goal to follow through on his lifelong passion for helping others and has spoken at schools on “Internet Awareness” throughout the New York Metropolitan area.
Joe is a husband and father and currently resides on Long Island in New York.
Melanie Burkholder Special Agent U. S. Secret Service (Former)
Former Special Agent Melanie Burkholder served in the Department of Homeland Security with the United States Secret Service for 6 years. Her duties included protection details for both the President and Vice-President of the United States as well as many foreign dignitaries.
She led security teams for both the 2004 Republican and Democratic National Conventions and the United Nations General Assembly. Melanie was an investigator of Identity Theft, Fraud, Money Laundering, Bank Fraud and Counterfeiting in the Los Angeles Field Office of the U.S.S.S. and was an integral part of an investigation into an international identity theft organization based in Nigeria. She successfully completed a course in Equal Employment Opportunity Counseling at The Graduate School, in Washington, DC, and was a Secret Service Team Leader at the time of her separation from the Government.
Prior to her Government service, Melanie, a native Tennessean, graduated from the University of Memphis with a Masters in Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research. She was a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, holding active licenses in three states and is currently licensed in the State of California. She is also earning a PhD in Christian Counseling.
Melanie has been a Keynote Speaker on Internet Awareness and Women’s Issues and has consulted with NY Finest Speakers since it’s inception. She is active in her community serving as an organizer, coordinator and planner for organizations and schools and recently completed training with the American Red Cross as a provider of Psychological First Aid.
Melanie is a wife and mother and currently resides in Southern California.
Lawrence Hoffman NYPD Detective (Retired)
Lawrence Hoffman joined the New York City Police Department in 1984. He was assigned to the 94 precinct in Brooklyn and the Brooklyn North Task Force. He spent eight years patrolling the Brooklyn streets and was later assigned to the Auto Larceny Unit and Dignitary Protection Unit.
Lawrence then advanced to the Brooklyn North Tactical Narcotics Teams (TNT) later known as Street Narcotics and Guns (SNAG) where he would be promoted to the rank of Detective. He was often able to turn simple street busts and firearm investigations into large cases and worked hand in hand with Federal Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).
One investigation resulted in the arrest of over 20 individuals, the recovery of more than 20 weapons and the seizure of large amounts of heroin, crack and cocaine and the dismantling of a violent Dominican Republic based narcotics operation that was terrorizing Brooklyn neighborhoods. His cases generated Federal Investigations and helped advanced Lawrence to the Organized Crime Investigation Division (OCID) where he would work in a federally funded program known as the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force. Working in conjunction with federal agencies such as the DEA and FBI, Lawrence investigated high level narcotics trafficking throughout the United States and the Caribbean.
After 20 years of service Lawrence retired from the NYPD earning 23 department recognitions. Larry has consulted with NY Finest Speakers since 2008, he currently resides in Florida and is the author of the non-fiction work “Turning Blue: A Life Beneath The Shield, he also serves with Hillsborough County Code Enforcement.
Pedro Crespo Jr. NYPD Detective (Retired)
Mr. Pedro Crespo Jr. served 24 distinguished years with the New York City Police Department, retiring in 2013 as a First Grade Detective. He began his Law Enforcement career as a patrol officer in the 44 Precinct in the Bronx, New York. Pete moved quickly into narcotics investigations transferring to the Bronx Narcotics Division and later the Bronx Homicide Task Force where he served both as an undercover and investigator.
After being promoted to Detective, he investigated both traditional and non-traditional organized crime while assigned to the Organized Crime Investigation Division, the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, the Joint Organized Crime Task Force (FBI) and the Federal Drug Enforcement Strike Force (DEA). Detective Crespo received numerous awards and citations including the Federal Bureau of Investigation Certificate of Appreciation, 1999, 2005, United States Attorney’s Award, Southern District of New York, 1999, 2003, NYPD Unit Citation, 1994, Chief of Organized Crime Control Certificate of Excellence, 1996, Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Certificate of Appreciation, 2001, 2005, NYPD Commendation for Integrity, 2003.
Pete’s training has included, Internet Exploitation, Financial Crimes, Money Laundering, Eavesdropping and Wire Taps, Counter Terrorism Training, Counter Surveillance Training, Dignitary Protection, Telephone Exploitation and Specialized Protective Security Training.
Mr Crespo holds a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City (1989) and has consulted with New York’s Finest Speakers since his retirement.
Pete is a husband and father of two adult children, he resides in New York City.
